Kaho'okele, the Ua'u (Hawaiian Petrel), is an endemic burrowing seabird that can dig up to three feet deep. Once abundant in the main Hawaiian Islands, its population has significantly declined due to the introduction of predatory species such as cats, dogs, deer, and mongooses.
This bird is a great companion to "Finding Home: A Petrel's Journey" by Caren Loebel-Fried.
Every Nature Store purchase, whether here, or onsite at Kilauea Point, directly strengthens and supports education, conservation, habitat restoration, volunteer and visitor programs on Kauai's three refuges as well as ongoing maintenance of the Daniel K. Inouye Kilauea Point Lighthouse.
